I discovered today that two secrets can help you understand me. One: I like to excel at everything I do. Two: I think my way is the best way and am offended if my way isn't chosen or doesn't work out.
I really am a very independent person. How come I am just now writing this out? This epiphany could have helped me through many a situation before. I am a firm believer that understanding yourself is the key to getting along with others and doing well in life.
For example, I know that I get restless and cranky if I do not have chap stick and water on me at all times, and if I do not eat at regular hours. Derrick knows this (especially the last) and so reminds me to stop and eat before we go someplace or something like that.
I also think that I have anger management issues. I can control my anger and frustration only to a point, and then I snap.
But knowing these few things about myself helps me to to control them and watch out for triggers and such.
I feel like I could be on the Autism spectrum--actually, I think all of us could. I mean, don't you get a little upset if something planned falls through? Maybe we don't throw a tantrum and most of us have okay social skills, but I think that there are still things to learn and watch out for.
So here's to (yes we are toasting over a glass of ginger ale)the quest in understanding oneself.
Next post: trying to understand one's spouse. (Actually...I'm not sure I want to go there. I am completely incompetent.)
I agree that it's so important to understand oneself! You're adorable Linds and I love you!
ReplyDeleteI get cranky too when I don't have chap stick and water (and hand lotion too!)!!! And Jared knows I have to eat every 2-3 hours as well--including a bowl of cereal EVERY night before bed. :) I'm glad I'm not the only one in this world with quirky habits!
