Yesterday (Saturday Nov 2nd) was a great day, mostly because I took no work home with me! Yay! That's a first in a long time. I have worked really hard in some long hours, but I finally did it. I feel a bit ahead even and therefore have time to do the more important things in teaching, but also time to relax at home.
But Saturday was full of projects.
#1: Finish painting the spare bedroom.
Two walls, two walls for the blue and orange. Someday this will be a baby room, and I know the colors are better for a boy, so here's to hoping. Otherwise, I don't know what we'll do....Make orange a girl color? It's nice to get to put the furniture back in this room so we no longer have it strewn all over the house.
Project #2: Finish painting the bathroom.
Half is tan, half is blue. I had to sit on Derrick's shoulder's to get to the ceiling corner above the toilet! It was good teamwork!
Am I going to paint the last room in the house? I don't think so, but we'll see. I never go in there right now, so maybe when I actually use the room I might get around to it. Der uses it for his dresser and closet and stationery (a?) bike and lovesac for cuddling with puppies in the morning and after school.
Project #3: Buy a sewing machine!
Look how pretty!
It can serge kinda and it can sew a button on in a very fancy way, etc.
I can finally sew hems on the two curtains I already have hanging up! Then I can make curtains for the last few rooms too! And I have a few things that need hems. And the store I bought from is like a community sewing store and offers classes and project classes and I think I want to do some!
Project #4: Figure out something new with my hair so I don't cut it off.
I put some curls in it and it looked alright. Phew.
Project #5: Meet with our contractor.
We finally got that set up and he said the urgent things are our electrical and our heating ducts. So we'll have to hire two guys for that and then the contractor and Derrick are going to fix our ceiling and roof where we had bad leakage a month or so back during a terrible rainstorm.
Project #6: Make some yummy food.
Today I made stuffing from scratch complete with my own homemade chicken broth (not just a bouillon cube, but I guess that could count too...) for stuffing casserole. It's fun to find things to cook that I don't cook very often. Thanks, Clay and Kara, for the idea on that one. Anyone else have some nummy, healthy meal ideas, send them my way!
So things are going well with us. Der painted the top of our suburban last week, hauled leaves off from the yard and some tree limbs last week, and is getting into some other projects like putting together a desk that we found the pieces of in the shed, building a shoe rack for me, attaching doors, fixing the fence that our puppies have now figured out how to escape from, etc. He is also chasing a dream, but I'm not sure I'm allowed to mention that, so I'll have to leave that one to you guys to ask him about if you're interested. I mean chasing in a good, productive, and ambitious way. I'm very proud of him.
Don't you hate taking cars into the shop? One thing that needed fixing was cheap and easy and now I feel stupid for not taking it in sooner, and the other is $800. Great.
It started snowing today. We've had warm weather so far, so we'll see if it sticks now or not.
Oh ya, and here are a few pics from our Canyonlands trip on October 25th:
Holy smokes, those pictures are beautiful!!! And you guys are pretty too :)
