Dog proof, Bunny proof

So I've spent about a month "bunny-proofing" the bunny pen Derrick built for our first rabbit, Jakey, who turned out to be a transvestite and we sold her to a better place. Our two new rabbits, are supposedly both boys and are brothers. The idea is that they grow up playing together and wille friends and not fight. I really wanted Thor because he is a lion head (has a mane) and yes it is that cute. But which brother should join him ended up going through try-outs. Turned out both were Houdini, but I made my choice because Roger "shepherded" Spot and I was worried about damages. It turns out, he is fine. So it's taken me forever and lots of stress, and they still are working to outsmart me. Here's a pic of some of my work:

At least the dogs don't chase the rabbits down when they do happen to escape now. And I'm always watching them closely. Yes, in the span of writing this blog, one of the bunnies escaped from the pen.

Well Roger has been just as much of a pill. We'd leave for a minute and he'd be across the street in the neighbor's yard. So Derrick built a make-shift fence. Remember, we're cheap and poor. Then he was still getting out looking at the neighbor's chickens or exploring. He was going through our stairs. So Derrick boarded that up the other day with a 2x4 nailed to each vertical part of each stair step. And we put a board and a piece of plywood up so Roger couldn't go throu the railing of the stairs. I hope this makes some sense. Then he is still getting out, so I decided to be crafty. We are leaving to go to a a ward ice cream social and we are going to leave Roger outside. He is whining as we walk down the driveway. So I call to him. Sure enough, he takes the bait, escapes, and shows us how he is being so crafty-jumping over the plywood through the railing. So I just took the last hour boarding up the whole stairwell and testing Roger on it.   Hopefully we are now escape-proof for the dog.  It took several tries and ends up like this:

And after it all, Roger is sad and knows he is in trouble, so he resorts to hiding behind the shed and wouldn't come out until Derrick got home. I promise, no dogs were injured in the course of this. You might not be able to see very well, but at least you can see that this is a tine space between the shed and the fence and has junk all in it.  You can kind of see the white of his head.

I feel like I'm preparing for something.  Please tell me that proofing for kids isn't this much of a pain.  Are they this smart?  Incidentally, I did move the knives up to an unreachable cupboard last week when I rearranged my kitchen for the umpteenth time.  Now I have counter space!
